MY NAME IS TE UIRA. This name was gifted to me by my grandmother and her grandmother before that, and is the same name of the daughter of Te Rauparaha. This name means lightning.
I am ONE OF our Tohunga (o Ngā Toi o Ngā Rangi Tūhāhā). I am forced to assert to this due to others asserting themselves left right and center, sometimes to my detriment in ways that can negatively impact me and the taonga that I am a kaitiaki and steward of.
My grandfather’s were TOHUNGA and RANGATIRA. Their names are NOHORUA and TE RAUPARAHA, I am ONE OF their mokopuna.
These are my ancestral gifts. This is my ancestral inheritance. This is my genetic blueprint.
I am inspired by the likes of TE WHITI O RONGOMAI, WIREMU RĀTANA, RUA KENANA, Whina Cooper, Tariana Turia and others of their ilk - not bankers, administrators, property moguls, colonially educated baby graduates, ex government workers, the spiritually confused, or CEO’S.
