Kōwhaiwhai

Don't miss out on the 'Artists Forum: Exploring Kōwhaiwhai' event in Porirua, 14th June at Pataka Art + Museum in the main gallery

If you're going to be around the Porirua - Wellington area this coming Sunday, 14th June, don't miss out on the 'Artists Forum: Exploring Kōwhaiwhai' event at Pataka Art + Museum in the main gallery. Starts at 2.30pm and features Kura Te Waru Rewiri, Sandy Adsett, Robert Jahnke, Ngataiharuru Taepa and Wi Taepa for a forum discussion on the contemporary relevance of kōwhaiwhai painting in New Zealand.

Ooooo this is right up my alley, and I would love to go and listen to this kōrero, but I will be doing tā moko that day at Mahara Gallery in Waikanae as part of their Te Ātiawa Matariki Exhibition, 'He Toi Reikorangi' and so I won't be able to make it! Go and take notes for me would you and please let me know how it goes!

Mauriora!

If you're interested in Māori Art, watch this...

It amazes and excites me that thanks to Māori Television online, we can now look up and view programs at our leisure on topics such as kōwhaiwhai and tā moko! If only we had such programs available to watch when I was a kid growing up! It's wonderful to have such quality resources at our fingertips.

So, if you are interested in Māori Art, particularly those of you that are currently overseas, check out 'Te Irikura' on Māori Television, very interesting and inspiring stuff!
