Originally released July 2015, I now have a few of these limited edition prints left, out of an original run of 50.
'Hine Ariki' was inspired by the birth of my baby daughter Niwareka, and is also inspired by the divine feminine and all things 'mana wāhine'. The word 'Hine' can mean girl or daughter and the word 'Ariki' can mean chief or leader. Furthermore, the Māori word for children is tamariki and can be broken down into tama / ariki, I believe this is an obvious and blatant reference to how children were (and still are) highly valued and highly viewed in Māori society.
The Matariki star constellation is featured in the image, as are the words 'he kakano koe i ruia mai i Rangiātea' which can mean 'you are a seed, sown at Rangiātea'. This art print acknowledges the divine origins of children, their inherent nobility and chiefly qualities, the ancient bloodlines flowing through their veins, and it specifically celebrates and uplifts our daughters, nieces, and special women in our lives.
Perfect gift for someone that has just had a baby girl, or for any other special girls / women in your life. Or perhaps you just like rainbows, stars, hearts and female leaders like I do!
Limited edition run of 50. These art prints are named, signed, dated and numbered on the back. They are printed on 300gsm card and A3 in size. All art prints will be sent to you unframed and the other items in the photos are not included.
